Well, isn't this Nice!

So we arrived on the last train from Avignon into Nice at 11:30 PM. The guy in the train station ticket window suggested a hotel to us, which I of course decided wasn't going to be what we needed (ha!) so we found an old information map and attempted to locate a hostel indicated on the map.

An hour later, we found ourselves wandering around Nice, a few blocks from the beach, lost and disoriented and without any hostel at all (I think it has ceased operations, probably due to the fact that no-one could locate it). After receiving some very kindhearted directions from a couple of fabulously well dressed Austrian men (It's after midnight. These men look like art dealers, what are they doing strolling Nice?) we found ourselves at a local hotel--which we couldn't actually get into, on account of the door being locked and there being no-one at reception.

So we found ourselves back at the original hotel, where we acquired, 1.5 hours later, the same room we had at first been offered when we arrived. Granted we did save 5 euros, though.

Conclusion as we rolled out on the morning train at 8AM, headed for Venice? "Well, wasn't that Nice?"
