Pictures from Venice.

Decided to just upload the pictures and give a brief explanation of each one.

Ok, here we go... I took this picture (and the following one) while waiting for Patrick to clear some space on his camera.

Just a little background info. This is the Bridge of Sighs (Ponte de Sospiri). It was erected in 1600 to connect the famous Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) to the infamous Doge's Prison on the other side of the Rio di Palazzo canal. The Ponte de Sospiri earned the name Bridge of Sighs during the 19th century when Britain's Lord Byron waxed poetic upon hearing the sighs of condemned prisoners en route to the executioner.

Hehe. I don't know if Patrick knew that I took this one too. He does now.

This is just one of the examples of the elaborate Carnival masks that could be purchased in the shops throughout Venice.

This guy was playing accordion for passer-byers. We happened to cross on the next bridge over, and decided to catch him and the bridge's reflection on the water.

This guy had just gotten off of work, and decided to head toward the water's edge to paint. From the looks of it, it appears he is trying to capture the low sun and San Marco's Bell Tower. We came across several painters on our walk around in the afternoon, and this guy was just one of them.

Patrick took this picture of me, and by this time I was kind of tired of posing for photos (and tired in general - not 10 minutes later I was sound asleep while Patrick talked to some fellow backpackers), so I told him, "I'm going to watch the water for a while, take the shot if you want." When I got to look at the pictures later, this one was one of my favorites.

This is an aerial view from San Marco's Bell Tower of San Marco's Square. The people from the air almost look like the multitudes of pigeons that call San Marco's home.

One of the many gondolas that navigate Venice's canals. The gondoliers have a difficult job navigating the long boats. Shortly after this picture was taken, this boat bumped into the wall on the left. Not hard, just a little bit.
